Copyright Notice

Last updated: Oktober 14, 2026

This notice explains how Blooming World International ("BWI") protects the original work published on blwi.org - our research publications, assessment tools, educational and training materials, and programme media - and the limited circumstances in which that work may be reused.

Because our mission is to strengthen the foundations of learning for children and youth furthest behind, much of the content on this site is deliberately designed to be used - by teachers, caregivers, governments, researchers, and community partners. This notice sets out what "use" means in practice, and where we ask you to seek permission first.

1 Ownership Statement

© 2026 Blooming World International - All rights reserved. Unless otherwise credited, the content on blwi.org is the original work of BWI or is used under license, and is protected under Kenyan copyright law and applicable international copyright treaties and conventions.

Because education is our core thematic area, a significant share of that content is instructional and research material developed for teachers, caregivers, learners, researchers, governments and community partners. That purpose is exactly why we set out, below, what others may do with it - rather than leaving reuse to guesswork.

2 What Is Protected

Protected work includes, without limitation:

  • Research publications, briefs, evidence summaries and impact reports - including studies and assessments on early childhood development, foundational literacy and numeracy, and future-ready skills
  • Assessment tools, frameworks and instruments we have developed or adapted, including localised versions of global tools such as the WHO Global Scales for Early Development (GSED)
  • Curricula, lesson plans, teacher guides, caregiver materials, training modules, facilitator guides, and BWI Academy course content
  • Original photography, video, illustrations, and graphic design
  • Website text, layout, code, and the selection and arrangement of content
  • The BWI name, logo, wordmarks, and programme/initiative branding

3 Media of Children & Programme Participants

Our mission starts with children - from birth, through the early grades, and into adolescence. Photographs, video, testimonials, and stories featuring programme participants are published only with informed consent from the participant and, for minors, their parent or guardian, and only for the purpose explained at the time consent was given.

This media carries protections beyond ordinary copyright. It may not be downloaded, reproduced, cropped, captioned, or redistributed by any third party - including for onward publication, fundraising, or promotional use - without BWI's separate written permission, granted only after our safeguarding review.

This restriction protects the dignity and safety of the children and communities we serve, consistent with our safeguarding commitments, and applies even where the general educational-use permission in Section 4 would otherwise allow reuse. Researchers wishing to use participant-derived imagery in published outputs must coordinate with our research team and Safeguarding Lead in advance.

4 Permitted Educational Use

In keeping with our mission to advance education and open knowledge-sharing, BWI permits limited reuse of our published research, reports, curricula and training materials, provided that:

  • The use is non-commercial, and for teaching, research, journalism, or community education purposes
  • The material is reproduced accurately, without alteration to its factual or scientific content
  • Clear attribution is given to "Blooming World International (blwi.org)", including a link back to the original page where the material is shared online
  • The reuse does not suggest that BWI endorses the reusing party or their products, services, or views

This permission does not extend to media covered by Section 3, to assessment tools covered by Section 5, to our trademarks and branding (Section 6), to any content marked as third-party or partner-owned (Section 7), or to bulk redistribution, resale, or republication of substantially all of a work. For any use outside these terms, or for commercial licensing, contact us using the details in Section 10.

Government partners, teacher-training institutions and NGOs working in foundational learning are encouraged to adapt our curricula and training materials for their own classrooms and programmes - we simply ask that adaptations credit BWI as the source and note what was changed.

5 Research, Data & Assessment Tools

A core part of our work is generating and sharing evidence - research publications, learning assessments, and pilot findings. We are committed to open sharing of findings in anonymised or aggregated form, in line with our Privacy Policy and any applicable ethics approvals and funder agreements.

The following clarifications apply specifically to this material:

  • Published findings may be freely cited, quoted, and summarised with attribution, provided individual participants are never identifiable from the reuse
  • Assessment tools, instruments and frameworks we have developed or adapted may be used by government and non-profit partners for non-commercial educational and research purposes, with attribution and, where applicable, with the terms of the original global tool (such as GSED) respected in parallel
  • Underlying de-identified datasets may be made available to researchers on request under a data-sharing agreement, where doing so is consistent with participant consent and applicable ethics approvals
  • Redistribution or modification of assessment instruments for commercial purposes requires our prior written consent

Researchers seeking access to de-identified data, or wishing to use our assessment tools in new contexts, should write to legal@blwi.org and, where relevant, coordinate with our research team.

6 Trademarks & Branding

"Blooming World International", "BWI", "BWI Academy", our logos, and associated programme names are marks of BWI. They may not be used to imply endorsement, partnership, or affiliation, or used on merchandise, promotional material, or any third-party publication, without our prior written consent - even where the underlying text or research is being reused under Section 4. Partners who are recognised on this site, or who work with us under a formal agreement, will be given specific brand-use guidance as part of that agreement.

7 Third-Party & Partner Content

Some material on blwi.org - including donor and partner logos, co-branded research, content contributed by research partners and networks (such as the People's Action for Learning (PAL) Network, the Regional Education Learning Initiative (RELI), or the Africa Early Childhood Network (AfECN)), and locally hosted versions of global tools - is owned by those third parties and displayed with their permission. Such material remains subject to its owner's own rights and is not covered by the permission in Section 4.

Content submitted by users of the Services (for example, a job application or a whistleblowing report) is handled under our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, not this notice.

8 Reporting Infringement

If you believe content on blwi.org infringes your copyright or other rights, or that our content, branding, or protected media (including media covered by Section 3) is being misused elsewhere, please write to legal@blwi.org with a description of the material, its location, and your contact details. We review all reports and take appropriate action, which may include requesting removal or takedown. If your report concerns misuse of media involving a child, please mark it clearly as such so it is escalated immediately.

9 Changes to This Notice

We may update this notice from time to time to reflect new content formats, programmes, or licensing arrangements - for example, as new research streams or partnerships are established. The "Last updated" date above will always reflect the current version.
