Blooming World International (BWI) is proud to participate in the BWI Nutrition Mapping and Integration Project, a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing health and nutrition for women, children, and adolescent girls across Africa.
Our Goal
To contribute to improved health and nutrition among women, children, and adolescent girls in Africa.
Project Locations
- Kenya
- Tanzania
- Uganda
Collaborating Partners
The project collaborates with the Ministry of Health (MOH), County Governments, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry/Department of Water and Sanitation in each participating country, as well as BWI Country Offices.
Project Duration
2 Years
Background
BWI reaches over 50 thounsand people in Kenya, focusing on vulnerable populations through community-based health interventions, water and sanitation services, and disease prevention. However, nutrition interventions often remain absent from these services, leading to gaps in optimal nutrition for infants, young children, adolescents, and mothers.
To address these issues, BWI is enhancing its capacity to advocate for improved nutrition services within health programs. The Project investment aims to integrate nutrition into BWI’s operations with support from a senior Nutrition Technical Advisor (NTA) from Nutrition International.
Specific Objectives
Systematically integrate nutrition into Blooming World International programs across participating countries.
Improve access to timely, quality nutrition interventions for adolescent girls, women of reproductive age, and children, addressing gaps identified in the mapping exercise.
Increase demand and uptake of nutrition interventions in communities among adolescent girls, women of reproductive age, and children.
Major Activities/Intervention Areas
The first phase of the project encompasses three key activities:
Comprehensive Nutrition Mapping: - Conduct a thorough mapping of nutrition needs across Amref programs to identify potential areas for intervention.
Capacity Assessment: - Evaluate the current knowledge of Amref staff regarding nutrition to identify training and support needs at all levels.
Organizational Nutrition Strategy Development: - Create a strategic framework for integrating nutrition across Amref’s operations, aligned with the global strategy for 2018-2022.
Achievements to Date by Objective Areas
Nutrition Mapping: Successfully conducted and finalized a nutrition mapping exercise in 3 BWI's country offices (Tanzania, , Uganda, and Kenya). The exercise identified 37 projects suitable for nutrition integration, with comprehensive reports being developed to capture critical information.
Knowledge and Capacity Assessment: Completed assessments in 2 countries, involving 82 field staff, to evaluate nutrition knowledge and capacity gaps, with results integrated into country reports.
Assessment of BWI Platforms:- Evaluated 2 out of 3 platforms to identify nutrition integration levels, revealing content gaps that will be addressed through further mapping.
Conclusion
Blooming World International is committed to improving health outcomes for vulnerable populations in Africa through this essential project. By integrating nutrition into health programs and building local capacity, we aim to create lasting change and ensure that women, children, and adolescent girls receive the nutrition support they need for a healthier future.
