Making the first 1,000 days count
Embedding nurturing care into the health, education and social protection services families already use, and spotting developmental delays early.
Nurturing Potential. Transform Generations
Across Africa, every child is born with immense potential, yet too many lack the nurturing care, quality education and opportunities they need to thrive. We believe that nurturing potential and building strong foundations can transform lives, strengthen communities and shape brighter futures for generations.
We work alongside governments, innovators, researchers, educators, families and communities to turn evidence into meaningful action, strengthening early childhood development, foundational literacy and numeracy, life skills and values - so that every child and young person, especially those furthest behind, has the opportunity to grow, learn, belong and bloom.
Blooming is the moment a plant opens into full flower. We work for that moment in every child's life: a strong start from birth, confident reading and counting in the early grades, and a smooth transition into life and work for every young person.
We measure what children know and can do, from birth to adolescence.
We bridge policymakers and practitioners across education, health and social protection.
We adapt proven ideas to local realities and help governments scale them.
It all began in March 2019 with one question: what would it take for every child to bloom? These commitments are our answer.

Adapting Teaching at the Right Level and structured pedagogy to East African classrooms, then helping governments scale what works.
Future-ready skills and values in schools and TVETs, so young people are ready not just to find jobs but to create them.
Open, locally relevant tools, including an adaptation of WHO's Global Scales for Early Development, to measure what matters most.
A shared space for education, health and social protection partners to share evidence and advocate together, complementing RELI and AfECN.
Every child grows within four circles of influence: the child, the family, the community and the systems that serve them. We work in all four, across three life stages.
Nurturing care and early stimulation through home visits, mothers' groups and quality daycare, so caregivers talk, play, read and respond in ways that build strong brains.
Every child reads with understanding and calculates with confidence, through Teaching at the Right Level, structured pedagogy and mother-tongue-based learning.
Character and values, social-emotional skills, digital and AI literacy and green skills, built into CBC and CBET, with pathways to meaningful work.
From nurturing care in a child's first years to foundational literacy in early primary - this is where our evidence-first thinking meets the ground.
